Life in the Frat
With rush season upon college students, many students must make the choice of whether to go to rush or not. Fraternities are a huge part of universities and offer many benefits to students. Fraternities open students to a large network of other students that all have similar interests. Greek life organizations have their own philanthropies as well. They help support organizations and causes that they believe deserve it.
When students join a fraternity, their networks expand exponentially. Students could meet students at all kinds of fraternity events. Events include things like block parties, philanthropy fundraisers, rush events, and mixers, which are events with other Greek life organizations. The fraternity houses are also where students will meet a lot of people. When living in a house with up to 100 people, you are sure to make some friends and networks.
The classic stereotypes of fraternities may make some students stray away from Greek life organizations. Some may think that students in fraternities don’t care about their grades or schooling and are just at college to have a good time. Although that would be appealing to some students, it’s not the case. Fraternities require students to keep up with their grades in order to stay in the frat. Most require that their active members stay above a certain GPA threshold.
When a student is deciding whether they want to join a Greek life organization, they should consider a few important things. Will you have the time to dedicate yourself to the betterment of the organization? Do you feel like you fit in with the environment and people? You should also consider how people outside the organization view the frat, to get an unbiased view of what you would be getting into.
All in all, fraternities are a great choice for students looking to expand their network and will continue to bring students together for generations to come.
