It’s time to BeReal
BeReal is a form of social media that has raised in popularity over the summertime. A reason for its extreme spike in downloads would be its vibe of authenticity. The main idea of the app is at a random time each day it will give you a notification: “Time to BeReal. 2 min left to capture a BeReal and see what your friends are up to!” With that notification you have two minutes to take a picture, the camera will capture both a front and back view. That is what makes it so authentic, no matter what you are doing through out the day you still have to share it. There are no expectations that need to be reached unlike apps such as Instagram and TikTok. It is also a good memory keepsake, it is fun to look back at and remember what you did each day.
The app brings back the nostalgic feeling of posting what you desire on social media. Now people mainly post precisely edited and well photographed pictures on other social media platforms. BeReal is a casual app where you don’t have to care about other people’s opinions and judgement. Also, you are able to make comments and react on your friends posts. It is an interactive app that allows you to see and learn more about your friends.
Here are some student’s opinions on the app:
“I really enjoy the app” – Mason Apel
“I think it is a fun way to keep up with life”- Mackenzie Rusin
“I enjoyed it a lot more when I had a small amount of friends added on the app. Now it has become more popular, and it can get annoying to use.” -Vito Ciranni
“It’s a good use of social media because it is very real, and doesn’t have a fake cover with a filter” – Kate McMurray
“It’s nice but it’s kind of dying.”- Aidan Lawton
“During the summer it was fun but now we are berealing at school and it doesn’t feel the same.” – Elvin Koleci
“I like getting random people to take them and catching them off guard.”- Anonymous
The app is very popular against the student body and enjoyed by many across the country. It has a lot more time left in it, and has tons of potential for growth. We’ll just have to wait to see what’s in store for the future of the app!
Here is some of my own personal BeReals that I really enjoy!
