An Evening With Silk Sonic

One thing that the pandemic brought us was the amazing collaboration between Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak for their first album together titled An Evening With Silk Sonic. Since the performers thrive over shows, they brought this feeling to this album. The collection of these 9 songs create a show-like atmosphere that feels like a performance from start to finish, and they seemed to bring the performance to life through the album.

This album begins with a track titled Silk Sonic Intro that sets the tone with the help of artist Bootsy Collins introducing Bruno and Andy. I believe that this was a very good way of starting off the album. This intro leads into the hit song Leave The Door Open, a song that has just won the Grammy’s for Song of the Year, Record of the Year, Best R&B Song, and Best R&B Performance. Their wins were very well deserved, and the two celebrated all throughout the Grammy night.

Looking further into the album, the third track, Fly As Me, is a song that describes Andy and Bruno’s charm, and it is one of my favorite tracks. The fourth track, After Last Night (with Thundercat & Bootsy Collins) combines multiple artists to create a piece of work that sets a mood for the listeners. On the fifth track, Smoking Out The Window, the artists describe their relationships through their songwriting. This song was actually the first idea that started Silk Sonic about five years ago. I think that this song was a perfect way to start out their journey together as a duo group. Looking at the sixth track, Put On A Smile, they describe the heartbreak that is felt after a relationship is strained. I love the rawness that this song brings, and it switches the trajectory of the album. Including this song shows the different emotions associated through the process, and I think it’s essential for the complete piece of work. Next track is 777, and this is my favorite song on the whole album. They sang this live for the Grammy awards, and it is also one of my favorite performances I have ever watched. The energy that this song brings to the album is unmatched, and it completes the overall vibes of Silk Sonic’s work. The eighth track, Skate, is a fun song that demonstrates the enjoyment the artists have while singing and performing. The music video is simple and also so fun and positive, and I love this song and video. The ninth track, Love’s Train, was a song released for Valentine’s Day that was included into the album. This song is similar to the O’Jay’s version, and I am very glad that they carried this song over into this new album. The last track, Blast Off, is the perfect way to end the collection of songs. It follows the vibes of the whole album, and I really love listening to this song as the last track. The length of this album is perfect for what I like, and I am very excited to see where these two take their songwriting in the future.

Silk Sonic’s debut album is one for the record books. They have brought back an R&B-like music that is very refreshing to listen to, and I think that many listeners appreciate their style. I strongly advise people to listen to their album all the way through and fully experience An Evening With Silk Sonic.
