Spring Break: London Edition

This spring break I was lucky enough to go to London, England. We stayed in Trafalgar Square, and explored much of London/West Minister, and had a day of exploration! This is how the week went!

Day One: We arrived in London on April 2nd, 2022. We settled in at our Trafalgar Square hotel,

then made our way to a bus stop to the the Big Bus “Hop-on Hop-off” Tour. This was a double-decker bus that brought you to the most famous sites in London/West Minister! While it was cold and rainy, I just had to sit on the uncovered, second level seating. While we did not “hop-off” we saw so many amazing sites, like Big Ben (Elizabeth Tower), the Tower of London, the London Eye, St. Paul’s Cathedral, and Buckingham Palace.

We then went to the original Hard Rock Café! Mind you – * I am a MASSIVE Queen fan* -. Hard Rock is known for their impressive collection of Rock and Roll Artifacts. This one, being the one Queen’s Brian May visits frequently, has a lot of Queen artifacts: Artwork from Freddie Mercury’s Garden Lodge, A “Brian May” Styled guitar signed by Brian, Brian May’s coat, and a Fender guitar signed by Freddie Mercury, Brian May, John Deacon, and Roger Taylor. After a wonderful meal, we went back to our hotel to rest.

Day 2: On our first full day in England, we did a walking tour of West Minister and the Churchill War Rooms. It was an educational tour, where we learned all about the events leading up to World War Two, where Winston Churchill used an underground base to stay in and plan their attacks. Once we finished with the guided walking tour, we visited the Churchill War Room Museum.

The museum section had artifacts going through Churchill’s whole life, from birth to death. They had the war rooms and bed rooms on display behind glass, which were so fascinating to look at and learn about. We then went to a local pub to get burgers and chips (steak fries) before looking around the town.

Day 3: You like rocks? I like rocks. On day three, we looked at lots of them. We did a “travelling” tour around England.

The first stop, was a building made of rock (kinda maybe not really), also known as the Windsor Castle. The Royal Standard flag was up, which means the Queen was in! (probably). It was absolutely gorgeous, and one of the biggest highlights of the trip!

Second, we looked at…guess…ROCKS! But not just any rocks. STONEHENGE. It was actually really cool. We had to guess how the rocks got there. But I’ll be honest, I don’t think they’re as old as people say. But I do think aliens put them there soooo. And there were lots of sheep surrounding the rocks in fields. They were very cute, unlike myself, lol.

Third, and finally, we visited Bath, England. We looked at the Roman Baths Museum. I’m not entirely sure what it was, but there were *rocks* from Roman Remains. After zooming through the museum, we looked around a section of Bath with shops and snacks. We got hot chocolate from Mrs. Potts, checked out the CUTEST bookstore, and got some authentic Italian pizza. It was  a m a z i n g.

Day 4: We’ve now made it to the second to last day in London (sad).

In the morning we went on a bicycle tour around town. People were very slow. Especially while we crossed the road. But it was fun! I enjoyed learning more about the history of the city, especially on such a beautiful day!

After two hours of cycling, we went to the world’s leading luxury department store, Harrods. It contains seven floors and 330 departments. A place where everything is overpriced and fashion makes me doubt the beliefs of humanity. BUT it was SO COOL. The bathrooms were unbelievably fancy. And we ate at a GORDAN RAMSAY RESTAURANT inside the store. Literal dream. So good. We also got an ungodly amount of chocolate and desserts, which I have no complaint of, they were v v v good.

Day 5: Eventually the glorious time in London had to come to close. Our final day was spent chasing guards and drinking milkshakes.

We started with a walking “changing of the guards tour”. With the same guide as the Churchill War Rooms, we received a very informational tour (Tour Guide Michael was a legend). We saw multiple changing of the guards, and marched next to them to see the royal band play behind the gates of Buckingham Palace. It was a very cool experience. I loved the horses. They were really cute. I just hope they’ve never accidentally (or on purpose) gotten jabbed by the guards swords. That would be sad.

The rest of the day was spent at a mini outdoor shopping mall. We enjoyed burgers and shakes at Shake Shack, and I got a cute hat from a hat vendor. Then the britishness of London came out, and it started raining pretty aggressively. We decided to rest for the remainder of the day in our hotel, and bask in the excitement of the week.

The next day we went home.

The end.
