Megan Thee Graduate
Last weekend, rapper Megan Thee Stallion real name Megan Pete graduated from Texas Southern University with a Bachelors’s degree in Science, Health Admintrastiom College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.
Many questions arose as to why the rapper would stay in college and earn her degree when she already has a successful career and won’t really need something to fall back on? However, Megan did this for very personal reasons.
Growing up she was raised by her mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her father was not present in her life as he was in prison for the first 8 years and then tragically died when she was 15, as her great-grandmother also died when she was very young. Megan was always inspired by how all the strong women she was raised by graduated college. As she wanted to keep the tradition and graduate herself.
As her career slowly started to take off in 2019 her mother sadly passed away from brain cancer as did her grandmother not too long after. For her grandmother and her mother, she wanted to make them proud by finishing college and getting her degree.
In honor of her grandmother with her degree, she wanted to open up an assisted care facility. In an interview with Apple Music she says ” I really wanted to open up these assisted living facilities because I saw the way my grandmother took care of my great-grandmother and I wanted to create an environment, you know for the elderly to feel safe in. Kind of like end-of-life care, I wanted people to spend the rest of their life somewhere where it felt like home and that’s what I wanted to do with my degree”.
Only a few days after graduating Megan received and was awarded by congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee the 18th Congressional District of Texas Hero Award. She has been able to teach many that hard work and dedication is the key to success.
Congratulations Megan!
