Coming This Week: Red (Taylor’s Version)
It’s no lie that Taylor Swift works harder than the average musician. The amount of effort she puts into her music and events surrounding it proves she’s doing what she loves. She creatively and cryptically introduces her music into the world with strange Instagram posts and exciting, surprise announcements, which we have recently received many of. Over the years, Taylor has taught us that she knows nothing of the word, “rest”, but she can’t wait to share her projects with the world once again.
The anticipation for Red (Taylor’s Version) grows harsher every day. This re-recording will include the full original track list of Red, the deluxe addition songs, as well as 9 “from the vault” tracks and the long-awaited All Too Well (10 Minute Version)(Taylor’s Version), collectively giving us a 30 track Swift album. The “vault” tracks (songs written during the original album’s era, but not released) include collaborations with Ed Sheeran, Phoebe Bridgers, and Chris Stapleton. As we’ve gotten closer to the release date, Taylor has made many announcements for interviews, performances, and even her own short film.
Starting on Thursday, November 11th, Swift will be the musical guest on a variety of talk shows. This includes hit shows, like The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and Saturday Night Live. We can only assume she’ll be performing songs from Red, and potentially even some songs from the “vault”. We will also be able to watch her previous performance of Carole King’s Will You Love Me Tomorrow?, from the October 30th Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction, when it’s televised on November 20th.
On November 5th, Taylor announced the arrival of a top secret project: The All Too Well short film. Written and directed by Ms. Swift herself, this will star Stranger Things‘ Sadie Sink, Teen Wolf‘s Dylan O’Brien, and of course, Taylor Swift. The short film will follow the storyline of All Too Well (1o Minute Version)(Taylor’s Version), and will be thirteen minutes long, a number famously used by Taylor. All Too Well was written about the relationship and heart wrenching break up between Swift and actor Jake Gyllenhaal. It is said that Gyllenhaal had kept and worn Taylor’s Gucci scarf after the break up, which fans are certain will be a huge feature of the film.
“But you keep my old scarf from that very first week, because it reminds you of innocence, and it smells like me. You can’t get rid of it, ’cause you remember it all too well.” (Swift, Taylor All Too Well)
Needless to say, this short film will be an emotional rollercoaster.
Finally, there has been evidence surrounding a Taylor Swift x Starbucks collaboration coming on Red (Taylor’s Version) release date. The love story of Taylor and Starbucks goes back to 2014, when Blank Space was released. Many fans misinterpreted the lyric, “got a long list of ex-lovers”, thinking it said, “all the lonely Starbucks lovers”. On Valentine’s Day in 2015, Swift sent out this tweet:
“Sending my love to all the lonely Starbucks lovers this Valentine’s Day……even though that is not the correct lyric.”
To which Starbucks replied:
“Wait, it’s not?”
This relationship continued to grow when Taylor posted a TikTok in which she acted out her tumblr post about her love for fall, which includes her drinking from a Starbucks cup. Shortly after this was posted, Starbucks posted a series of tweets referencing Taylor Swift songs, including, “We know all too well how exciting this time of year is, and we’ll forever and always love it: Our red holiday cups and drinks are back!”, “Here’s to throwing your head back like a little kid ☕”, “long story short…you might be on to something”, and finally, the most theory inducing one, “It’s Red season” paired with a scarf emoji (like All Too Well). Taylor also posted a TikTok filled with red clothing items, captioned, “It’s Red Season”.
Based on multiple posts and TikToks, people theorize that Starbucks will sell a latte with flavors picked by Taylor, and write “Taylor’s Version” on the cup of everyone who buys it. As a coffee drinker and Taylor Swift connoisseur, this sounds like an delicious suspicion.
This season of Red (Taylor’s Version) has a lot more to uncover, but I already know that this will be one of the most momentous events of the year.
