October is Italian-American Month!
The month of October is Italian-American Heritage and Culture Month! To celebrate, let’s play a game. Below there are two truths and a lie about *known* Italian-American citizens and all things Italy. Can you figure out which one is incorrect?
Which is the lie?
- Sylvester Stallone AKA Rocky Balboa wrote a novel.
- Italy is home to Europe’s only three active volcanoes.
- 65% of Italy’s highways do not have a speed limit.
The lie? Italy’s highways, or what they call the autostrade, do have a speed limit of typically 80 m.p.h. However in Germany, 65% of their highways do not have a speed limit!
Should we play one more time?
Which is the lie?
- I, Francesco Gerardi, am Irish.
- Kobe Bryant (R.I.P) could speak fluent Italian.
- Nicholas Cage is Italian and his uncle directed the The Godfather movie series.
The lie? At a quick glance at my name, I, Francesco Gerardi, am Italian and not Irish. Was it a hard one to figure out?
Did you get them right? If you did – buon lavaro (good job)! Enjoy a cannoli, a shot of espresso, or a plate of pasta and have a great time celebrating Italian-American Heritage and Culture Month.

Italy’s active volcanoes were a major part of its historical prominence with the Roman Empire. The incredible structures built by the Romans were made with concrete mixed with volcanic ash. This has been weird history trivia with Mr. Voss.
