"We Revolve Around You"
without the gold rush

without the gold rush

December 16, 2020

This is a poem that was inspired by the song “gold rush” by Taylor Swift. It’s the opposite perspective of the song, its about finding someone so beautiful, and they just don’t see it.

Without the gold rush

did someone shatter the glass?
the glass that you saw yourself through
the sparkling gleaming reflection that used to look back at you
who told you to be afraid?
that you weren’t already perfect
that you needed to be fixed and to be made into someone who’s worth it

or was there never a mirror?
do you simply not know what the world sees?

I see soul crushing beauty
I see perfect windy hair
I see golden eyes that you only see in movies
I see someone who doesn’t even know that they’re there
I see someone bright and kind through these
eyes and it’s just not fair

everybody wonders what it would be like to love you
except for you
