Did The Groundhog See His Shadow???
Groundhog’s Day
All About Groundhog Day
Grounghog day has been celebrated for many years with the first celebration being on February 2, 1887 in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. This celebration is because of a dutch superstition, which is if the groundhog sees his shadow on that day coming out of his burrow, than he will go back into his den and winter is supposed to last for another six weeks. Whereas if the groundhog doesn’t see his shadow on that day, then spring will arrive early.
Results for 2020
The groundhog that goes by the name of Punxsutawney Phil, couldn’t find his shadow this year. With that being said, spring is said to come early this year. Since Phil’s first prediction which was in 1887 till now, he has seen his shadow 104 times, while failing to spot it 20 times. There is also 10 years missing from the record. This year of 2020 is the second year in a row Phil hasn’t seen his shadow and is the first time on record in consecutive years.
Why His Prediction Seem’s Fitting
This year Phil did not see his shadow and that means an early spring!! While many are excited, this prediction really works with how the year played out. This year has really lacked the winter feel, and in many cities in the eastern United Sates, after a mild December, it was among the warmest January’s on record. So Phil not seeing his shadow really does fall into play with the so called “superstition”.
