YNW Melly May Not be the Only One with “Murder on His Mind”
Recently in entertainment, the rapper known as YNW Melly (Jamell Maurice Demons) was told by the state of Florida that he could very well be facing the death penalty. The rapper was imprisoned back on February 19th of this year and has since been awaiting trial in Broward County Jail, Florida with his accomplice YNW Bortlen (Cortlen Henry).
Demons was arrested and charged for the murder of his friends YNW Sakchaser (Anthony Williams) and YNW Juvy (Christopher Thomas Junior). Melly turned himself on account of rumors and sources suspecting the killing of his friends with the lyrics of his song “Murder on My Mind.”
Melly later pleaded innocent in court soon after he turned himself in which is anything but fortunate in his case. As cruel as it may sound, he would have been better off admitting to the murder of his friends as evidence shows he is guilty
The rappers’ accomplice YNW Bortlen was suspected to have been operating the vehicle that was involved in the drive by shooting that killed the 21-year-old Anthony Williams and 19-year-old Christopher Thomas Junior.
The vehicle was impounded under the Broward County police department for further investigation on the case. Bullet holes were found in the passenger’s side door. Bullet casings were also found on the floor of the passenger’s seat where Melly was said to be sitting in according to witnesses and external sources.
The lyrics of “Murder on My Mind” are being held against Melly in his trial as many suspected that the lyrics relate to the double homicide conducted by the rapper. The original lyrics for the song can be found here on https://genius.com/Ynw-melly-murder-on-my-mind-lyrics.
The lyrics by all accounts seem to vividly depict a murder seen as he describes the process in which h killed a man. The song also seems to deal a lot with an obsession of guns and homicide further proving him guilty.
Personally, I think Melly shouldn’t be held accountable for the deaths of his friends simply based of him talking about killing someone in his song. Anyone could simply say “I killed a man,” and nobody would think anything of it.
In other words, Melly’s First Amendment rights to Freedom of Speech seem as though they are being violated in this case as he doesn’t have a say as to whether or not he should receive the death penalty.
Melly has pleaded “insanity” a number of times as he has been known to associate himself with what he calls another personality named “Melvin.” He’s implicating that he has some degree of MPD (Multiple Personality Disorder).
The rapper’s situation seems to be worsening with every trial he has gone through so far. On a more positive note, Future, another well renown rapper, is offering to pay Melly’s bail saying he wants his “little brother” out of jail.
But unfortunately, seeing that Melly could very well be facing the death penalty on account of double homicide, a bail is highly unlikely at this point in time.
