What is the AAF?

The AAF or Alliance of American Football, is a professional football league that is hosting its inaugural season this year and is home to ex-NFL players, or players that didn’t make the cut on their path to the NFL. The AAF and the NFL are two completely seperate leagues, however some NFL teams have partnered with AAF teams as a way to bring in revenue and to have a sponsorship with a ‘lower tier’ league. Names like Johnny Manziel, Colin Kaepernick, and Tim Tebow are a great reason to have a league like this. It gives players the opportunity to showcase their skills on a lower level and work their way to the NFL, if that is the course they choose to take. The AAF caught peoples attention with their ‘minimized’ rule book and various rule changes that wouldn’t be likely in the NFL such as changes to the Roughing the Passer rule, and the ‘Sky-Ref’ who can overturn calls missed by officials on the field from up in the booth. Although another addition to the already vast number of football leagues does not seem necessary, there is something different about the AAF that leads me to believe it will achieve more success than past attempts at a league such as this.
