You may be thinking that Sony’s new movie Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is just another over-done Spider-Man film, but it is so much more. The movie presents the well-known story of Spider-Man in a unique way that includes many other versions of the hero such as Spider-Gwen, Peni Parker, Spider-Man Noir, and the star:  Miles Morales. Miles was first introduced to the Spider-Man universe in 2011 as a comic book character and this is the first time he has appeared in a film of his own. Of course, the most well-known version of the hero, Peter Parker, is also present in the movie to serve as Miles’ mentor and show him the ropes- or rather, the webs. Overall, the movie is an enjoyable watch that captures all the best aspects of super hero films. Not to mention the breath-taking animation. It is undeniable that an extraordinary amount of work and attention was put into animating this movie. It is like watching a comic book come to life, and the incredible attention to detail is obvious. If nothing else, the animation alone makes this movie worth a watch.

Though many underestimated its success, the movie has done well financially since its premiere almost a month ago. Within the first weekend, it made around $35 million and has since made almost $300 million worldwide. Audience members and critics alike have praised the movie, and it has shown high ratings across both categories. Earlier this week, the movie was awarded Best Animated Feature Film at the 76th annual Golden Globe Awards. Many people now hope that the film’s success will inspire more diversity and original concepts in future super hero films, both animated and live-action.
