Chippewa Valley Big Reds Against Clarkston Wolves State Championship

The Chippewa valley Big Reds against the Clarkston Wolves in the Division 1 state championship finals at Ford field. This would be the Big Reds second state title championship where they won it back in 2001. Chippewa Valley wasted little time setting the tone for this game, scoring in less than 2 ½ minutes on Andre Chenault’s 5-yard run. The score was set up by Schuster’s 37-yard pass to Ellis. Ja’Von Kimpson got the ball right back for the Big Reds with an interception that resulted in Schuster’s perfect 36-yard TD pass to Martice Bunting and Chippewa Valley led 14-0 less than six minutes into the game. The Wolves came back down and scored trying to get things going, but David Ellis 94-yard kick return shut down any momentum the Wolves had making the score 24-10 halftime lead for the Big Reds.  

Clarkston started with the ball out after the half, and they put together a drive to set up 5-yard rushing touchdown. Tommy Schuster and the offense came right back out and continued to dominate Clarkston’s defense with another touchdown pass, a 25-yarder to Bunting to extend the lead to 31-14. After that Clarkston’s started scoring again making it 31-21, Clarkston’s defense stepped up big time stopping the Big reds and they got a field goal out of it making it 31-24 Big Reds. The Wolves were not going out without a fight, they drove down the field with just about two minutes left scoring a passing touchdown to Matt Miller with 23 seconds left making score 31-30. Instead of settling for a kick to tie the game, Clarkston went for a two-point conversion to end the game, the Big Reds defense made the play of the game making the game winning sack to secure the Big Reds title game victory. The Big Reds finished the season with a perfect undefeated record of 14-0, this team will go down in the history books for Chippewa Valley.
