Game 163

Sunday September 30th was one of the craziest days for baseball, with two out of the three divisions in the National League was still undecided.  One of the divisions being the National League West, with the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Colorado Rockies tied atop of the division with a 90 and 70 record coming into Sunday’s affair.

The Rockies welcomed the struggling Washington Nationals into Coors Field on Friday for a three-game set.  Sunday’s game was the biggest game for the Rockies this year by far.  The reason why is because if the Rockies won the game they would still have a chance to win their first N.L. west division in their franchise history.

The Dodgers on the other hand started a three-game set on Friday in San Francisco against their arch rival the Giants.  They also were fighting for the top spot in the division, and if they were to win they would have a chance of winning their 6th straight N.L. West title.

The Los Angeles Dodgers and Colorado Rockies both ended up winning their respected games.

The Dodgers demolished the Giants on Sunday with a 15 to 0 win with the help of their first-baseman Max Muncy, second-baseman Brian Dozier and their back-up catcher Austin Barnes who came in defensively in the 8th.  All three players homered in the game.  Also, the Dodger’s starting pitcher Rich Hill earned his 11th win of the season.

The Rockies also won a blowout game against the Nationals by a score of 12 to 0 with the help of 2 homeruns by their all-star third-baseman Nolan Arenado who also took the N.L. homerun lead with number 37 that came in the bottom of the 7th inning.  Their winning pitcher was Tyler Anderson who earned his 7th win of the season.

This left the Rockies and Dodgers still tied atop of the division and it forced a one-game playoff between the two clubs that will take place in L.A. on Monday, October 1st at 4:00 p.m. ET.  However, the loser will still have a chance because they will still have to play the “Wild Card” game which is another one game win or go home scenario.

The other division that was undecided was the National League Central that had the Chicago Cubs and the Milwaukee Brewers tied atop of the division with 94 wins each coming into Sunday’s games.

The Chicago Cubs welcomed the St. Louis Cardinals to Wrigley field on Friday for a three-game weekend set.  The Cubs took two of the three games from the “Red Birds” with the final score on Sunday being 10-5, with their starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks getting the no-decision.  Also, they got some added help by their all-star third-baseman Kris Bryant by doubling down the left-field side for two RBIs.  It was his 28th double of the season which opened the door for the “cubbies.”

The Brewers on the other hand were playing an interleague match-up with the Detroit Tigers at Miller Park that started on Friday.  The Brewers ended up sweeping the Tigers by finishing them off with a 11 to 0 shutout on Sunday.  With the help of their first-baseman Jesus Aguilr who homered in the game.  Also, their winning pitcher was Gio Gonzalez who earned his 10th win on the season.

Since the Cubs and Brewers now have the same record for the end of the regular season with 95 wins each both teams will have to meet up in a one game playoff which will be on Monday, September 1st at 12:05p.m. ET in Chicago, at Wrigley field to decide who will win the N.L. Central.  The loser will still be in the playoffs, however, they will be in the “Wild Card” game the very next day which is also another one-game win or go home scenario.

With all that being said, it should be one heck of a postseason this year, be sure to tune in!
