The show is based in Southern California in a town called Freeridge in Los Angeles whose resident are predominantly Latino and African-American.  Netflix states that On My Block is, “A coming of age comedy about four bright and street-savvy friends navigating their way through the triumph, pain and the newness of high-school set in LA’s South Central neighborhood.” The show is center around Ruby Martinez the brains of the group, the heartthrob of the group Cesar Diaz, the witty one in the group Jamal Turner, and the tough one in the group who is also the glue that holds everyone together Monse Finnie. Olivia later joins the group becoming close friends with Monse. Played by Jason Genao, Diego Tinoco, Brett Gray, Sierra Capri, and Ronni Hawk. The show isn’t just about regular teenagers that you’ll see on every other show, it showcase the struggle of teens living in the inner city trying to make it a day at a time. The show does include romance drama that includes a love quadrangle. The show has also a hit of The Goonies. Each character has their own indivertible struggle they has to deal with, which is why everybody has at least one  character they can relate too.

After watching the first episode I was hooked and couldn’t stop watching it, before I knew it I was on the finale episode. I would rate this show a 5,5/5 stars. The show promote diversity with an all people of color cast. Representation matters and nice for people to watch a show with people that’s look like them, live in a similar neighborhood , or have similar struggles. So they don’t feel alone. The show as release on March 16 and already has a rating of 5,1 starts out of 5 which is the highest in Netflix history. This is the new show to binge watch, once you start you can’t stop.
