Highlighting the Red Wings Remaining Games

In the midst of a retooling year, the Detroit Red Wings 2017-18 campaign has been less than ideal. As of February 11, 2018, the Red Wings sit at 21-23-9, 51 points in 53 games played. While the team may not be competing for a playoff position come April, there are still plenty of intriguing matchups to look forward to in the final 29 games of the season. Here is a look at the most intriguing matchups left in the season.

February 15th @ Tampa Bay, 7:30 PM

The rivalry has grown over the years, aided by two playoff series matchups in 2014-15 and 2015-16. There are sure to be some tempers flaring with these two teams yet again. Oh, and another meeting with Red Wings legend and current Lightning GM Steve Yzerman.

February 25th @ New York Rangers, 7:30 PM

The last time these two teams played each other in New York, on November 24th, it was a goalie show featuring Jimmy Howard and Henrik Lundqvist. Will we see more of that in this matchup? It’s also the final game before the trade deadline on February 26th, so it could be the final time we see a few Red Wings play for the team.

March 6th @ Boston, 7:00 PM

Another original six rivalry that is always a joy to watch. The Bruins/Red Wings matchup produces some fantastic competition every time they play one another. It’s also fun to boo Brad Marchand from your TV set.

March 8th vs Vegas, 7:30 PM

The expansion Golden Knights first trip into Detroit, and the only one of the season. It isn’t often we see expansion teams roll into town, and with Vegas being as good as they are (second in the league), this one is must-watch hockey in Hockeytown.

March 18th @ Colorado, 3:00 PM

The rivalry of the 90s and early 2000s have long since passed, with the Wings changing conferences, but it is still always fun to reminisce about those days when the two teams hated each other. They also played an outdoor game together in 2016.

March 27th vs Pittsburgh, 7:30 PM

The back-to-back Stanley Cup champions roll into town for the last time this season. There likely wont be many playoff implications for the Wings, but there will be for Pittsburgh, and it would be fun to play spoiler. Booing Sidney Crosby out of the building is also a good time.

April 7th vs New York Islanders, 7:00 PM

The final game of the season, and the last in the inaugural season at Little Caesars Arena. It may be the last Red Wings game until October, so this one is also must-watch as a sendoff to the team.
