The Real Reason Why the NFL is Losing Viewers

This is all my own opinions, they don’t belong to anyone else. THIS MEANS YOU.

Forget the kneeling. Forget the protests.

The real reason why the NFL is losing thousands and thousands of viewers seemingly every month is because of the incompetence of league officials when it comes to on-field calls.

It feels like every week we see calls on the field that are not correct, and to fans this is infuriating because it happens so often. This is most often the case with the catch rule, as was shown once again on Sunday during the New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers game.

The catch in question from Sunday’s Patriots/Steelers game.

When Steelers TE Jesse James dove into the end zone late in Sunday’s game, everyone thought it was a clear-cut touchdown. When it was being reviewed if it actually was a touchdown, everyone thought it would hold up.

Then the call got overturned. No touchdown, and this was in part the reason why the Steelers lost the game.

While the officials technically got the call right, as the ball was not in total control by James, the league should take a closer look at this rule in the offseason to ensure it doesn’t happen again.

Die-hard NFL fans are being driven away, simply because they can’t take any more of these happen. What is a catch in the NFL these days?

Nobody really knows for certain, and this is something that Commissioner Roger Goodell and his league officials need to take a look at and consider changing.

I feel the same way as a majority of NFL fans do. The rule needs to be changed. If some catches in some games stand, and the same catches in different games are overturned, then it can be said that nobody knows what a catch truly is.

That needs to be changed before it is too late for the league to recover from losing viewers.
