Deadly Egyptian Terror Attack

A major terrorist attack took place at a Sufi mosque on November 24 in what is being called Egypt’s deadliest terrorist attack. 305 people have been killed in the attack, at least 27 being children, and another 128 were wounded. There were at least 25-30 militants who were blocking doors and windows.

The Islamic State, or ISIS, is presumed to have carried out the attack, has had past tensions with the area and has even attacked them in the past. Several airstrikes were carried out by the Egyptian military hours later that targeted militants who were fleeing.

Many residents and officials believe that the attack was a way to warn the people of the consequences of continued military support. Bir al-Abed, the town in which the attack took place, has been pro-military, which angered the Islamic State.

The attack has sent shockwaves throughout the nation and throughout the world. Normally attacks made by the Islamic State are targeted at Christian churches or pilgrims. However, this is a rare occurrence that an attack would be targeted at Muslims in prayer at a mosque.
