Foods I ate in Amsterdam and Brussels

Over midwinter break my friend and I took a trip to Europe. We planned to go to Belgium, France and England and then booked a spontaneous day trip to the Netherlands. While visiting we tried different foods from all over the different countries that we visited. Here are the foods that we tried in Belgium and Amsterdam.

Raspberry Galet waffle

Galet

Our first stop for food in Belgium was obviously a waffle. We saw a waffle place called Galet and grabbed a waffle from there. I decided to get the simple raspberry waffle while my friend got a plain vanilla waffle with chocolate and whipped cream on top. It was sticky but so worth it. It was exactly what I needed.

Woodpecker 47

One morning in Brussels for breakfast, we found a place called Woodpecker 47 and decided to give it a try. The inside of the restaurant was very cute and homey. I decided to get the Peck Special which was two poached eggs and bacon on top of a chorizo waffle stuffed with goat cheese while my friend got the Magic Mushroom which a leek waffle with roasted mushrooms and two poached eggs on top. They were both very good and filled us up for the rest of the day.

Mortimer

Mortimer was our first stop in Amsterdam to start our day off right. We waited around 5 minutes and then sat at a small table in the back of the restaurant. I got a flat white and my friend got a cappuccino to start. When we got to order I decided to go for something sweet and got the Banana Bread French Toast while my friend got the Eggs Benedict. This meal started my friends Eggs Benedict obsession for the rest of the trip so it’s safe to say that she enjoyed it. My meal filled me up and it was just what I wanted. The picture of the meal is the featured cover photo.

We stopped in this little café to get a small bite to eat to hold us over until we went to go get dinner. My friend and I both decided to just get the tomato soup. It was nothing special, the little bread on the side was cute though. The soup did its job and held us over until dinner, but I wouldn’t go back and get it again.

Others

While in Belgium I also had to try Belgian fries. I had a choice to pick a condiment and mayo is a very popular thing to dip your fries in Belgium so I went with that. It was surprisingly really good. I actually had it twice so that shows how good they were.
