When Season One of Ginny & Georgia ended, no one really knew what they had in store for season two. This season turns the show from a teen drama to a show with depth and dramatized real world issues.

Ginny and Georgia is a Netflix original about a mom and her daughter settling down in a picture-perfect town after years of being on the run. Ginny and Georgia have not had a normal life by any means, hence why Georgia likes to hide her rough past as it keeps trying to catch up with her. Ginny finally finds real friends as she never has before because they never stay in one place long enough. Throughout the season it reveals some of Georgia’s secret past and shows the emotional struggle it puts Ginny through.

*SPOILER ALERT*

If you have not seen season one and do not want to know what happens don’t keep reading.

Season one ended with Ginny Stealing Marcus’s motorcycle and running away. No one knew where she went, that was the cliffhanger they left us on. Season Two picks up at Zion’s answering the question of where she ran to. Ginny and Austin Had been living at Zions for about two weeks. Ginny’s lie is why she’s staying there she says it’s because she needs time away from her newly engaged mother, but we know the real reason. In the end of season one Ginny uncovers her mother’s murderous secret. Ginny Struggles a lot mentally but she has trouble expressing this, so she resorts to self-harm. We learned this in season one but after having dinner at Zion’s in season two we see she is still self-harming. Ginny has a panic attack and Zion helps her because Georgia used to get them. After this she finally confides in him and expresses herself about how she’s been self-harming. Zion Promises to get her help and make her therapy appointments.

Georgia calls Zion and demands the kids home for Fri-yay, a tradition where they fry every food and eat it. They go back to Georgia’s, and this is when Ginny tells her mom she wants to live with Zion, but Georgia freaks out and tells her no, she demands she stay home. The way Georgia is yelling at Ginny is really traumatizing to Ginny. Georgia of course doesn’t know the bad state of mental health Ginny is in, but this isn’t helping it making it worse. Zion is about to tell Georgia about Ginny’s self-harming, but Ginny says fine she will stay with her mom because she’d rather do that then tell her about the self-harming.

This Show does a very great job of raising awareness of mental health issues stemming from your parents. People don’t always see that parent’s actions affect the kids. In the whole show you see that all of Ginny’s mental health issues stem from Georgia and actions she makes. Ginny found out her mom killed someone imagine what that would do to a person. This show is very complex and has multiple layers to look at, because you want to blame Georgia for Ginny’s mental health, but you can’t be mad at her because Georgia loves Ginny so much and every difficult decision has been for Ginny.
