Varsity Football Playoffs

For 17 consecutive years, the Dakota Varsity football team has made it to the playoffs. Nevertheless, for the last 6 years, the team has won their first game of the playoff season. As the whistle blew, the team took the field against the Anchor Bay Tars. The rain poured down and even the crowd knew this game would have twist and turns that no one would see coming.
Not that many people showed up for this game at first but by the end of the first quarter 2/3 of the student section was full. The weather caused many people to leave at various points. The band tried to stay as long as they could but the rain made it difficult to properly play instruments.  Four drum line players stayed to hype up the crowd. The spirit of the drumline players embodied the spirit of the football players. At first, the players were sliding all over the field and seemed to not believe they were ready to win this game. But the hundreds of practices and hours they spent in heat and cold and rain would not fail them now.

The first quarter stayed at a constant 7-6 score as the team adjusted to the weather. Once second-quarter hit, there were a few struggles to keep the ball in anybody’s hands. The Dakota team turned that around and got possession of the ball while doing their best and scored score two more touchdowns within 7 minutes.

After the first half, three more touchdowns were scored ending the game at 42-14. The hope of winning this game raised in each player’s heart even as the rain poured on harder. They play against Chippewa Valley November 3rd, and they could always use a cheering student section to be there even when the rain pours harder.  Let’s support our team as they represent our school in the playoffs.
