Well for starters, sometimes Mother Nature has a way of reminding us of who’s in charge. But while you can’t control when or where a hurricane will hit, the best way to minimize potential damage is to be prepared.

Hurricane Prep Tips:

When a major storm is coming, both you and your family can stay informed by following NOAA Weather radio or your local news channels for updates. In addition, make sure to obey all orders if requested to evacuate by the authorities. Follow these 10 hurricane and storm preparation steps to keep both your home and loved ones safe before disaster strikes:

  1. Make a plan.
  2. Secure the exterior (meaning secure the outside of your house, apartment, condo, etc.).
  3. Install storm shutters.
  4. Check both wall hangings and art.
  5. Move all of your vehicles (meaning your cars, trucks, SUVs, RVs, etc.).
  6. Power up.
  7. Unplug all appliances (meaning your TVs, stoves, ovens, microwaves, toasters, etc.).
  8. Store important documents.
  9. Prep an emergency kit.
  10. Identify a shelter room.
