Leaving Dogs Outside In Below Freezing Temperatures Should Be Illegal
Currently in Michigan there are no laws to protect dogs from being left outside. Depending on the weather conditions you live in it could be beneficial to keep your dog outside and can bring no harm to them. But most dog owners who keep their dogs outside do not think about bringing them inside during severe weather conditions. Keeping dogs outside in any temperature 45 degrees and below can be fatal. Just like with humans dogs can get hypothermia. Hypothermia can spread rapidly and become fatal if not treated immediately. Keeping your dog in cold conditions could also cause them to develop arthritis. This can occur in old dogs as well and young dogs. Certain dogs are not meant to be outside dogs. If your dog breed is not made for cold or harsh conditions keeping them out in the cold could be even more harmful to them. It can also cause them to develop hypothermia faster than other dogs.
