The Batman Review

⚠️MINOR SPOILERS⚠️

This article is dedicated to Ashton Posner

Most commonly known for playing Edward Cullen in The Twilight Saga Robert Pattinson has come far in recent years in film. Appearing in movies such critically acclaimed films such as The Lighthouse and The King. Putting his all into his performance Pattinson gave us a new Batman to look forward to. Pattison’s stellar performance brought a new and original Batman to the screen as we can expect a new era from this Batman.

Zoe Kravitz has always been a popular actress and continues her string of blockbuster movies with this film. Having been in The Divergent Series, The Fantastic Beasts Series, and The X-Men Series she is not shy to the public eye. As the film mainly focuses on Pattisons’ character it also follows Selina’s storyline. From her mother being murdered at a young age as her father did not want her she was left an orphan and struggled growing up. Later finding out her father had her mother killed she sought out her revenge. With an understandable motive, it was fun to see her character kick-butt as Kravitz really gave us her all in this film. She is never directly called Catwoman in the film but there are so many easter eggs and hidden clues that hint at the feline character. From her long nails that resemble cat claws to having little cat ears on her ski mask in her disguise goes to show the detail that was put into the character. Selina”s aesthetic gives us a better insight into the character, along with all these clues possibly hinting at a standalone Catwoman film starring Kravitz.

Quotes like “They think I live in the shadows, I am the shadows”, and “Don’t throw your life away. Don’t worry I’ve got nine of them” are what made Kravitz and Pattison’s banter on screen so much fun to watch.  As well as having amazing one-liners, Kravitz brought a lot of adventure to the film.

Overall the film was interesting to watch. Running a little long with a runtime of 3 hours and 2 minutes I wasn’t bored with it. It did a good job keeping me as a viewer engaged throughout the film. Along with astounding cinematography and amazing musical score by Micheal Giacchino, it was an action-packed film filled with memorable and original moments. One of my favorite things about the film of how different it was from most superhero movies. The darker twist is what made it so enjoyable. Overall, I give this film an 8.5/10
