Help Betta Fish Get Better Tanks
This weekend I went to a pet store and noticed something awful. The Betta fish sold at the store are kept in small clear containers. In order for a betta fish to be healthy they need at least a three gallon tank with a filter. Betta fish are territorial and will fight and injure one another if kept in the same tank. Keeping the fish in different containers is a good option so they don’t harm each other but keeping fish in tiny containers for long periods of time can permanently damage the fish or result in death.
Many of the betta fish you see in pet shops look sick or nearly dead. If you look around the pet shop at the other fish you will notice all of them swimming but when you walk over the the betta fish non of them are swimming. They can barley even turn around. Studies have shown that fish can in fact feel pain and suffering. The same fish will sit in the same cups on shelves for months without ever being able to swim.
