evermore

evermore

Taylor Swift has surprised her fans with lots of news, but Evermore might top the list for one of the best surprises. On December 11th, 2020, Taylor Swift released Folklore‘s sister album, her ninth studio album entitled Evermore.

Evermore is one of my favorite Taylor Swift creations, I absolutely love every track on the album. She worked through lockdown to create this album after Folklore, and she said “…it feels like we were standing on the edge of the folklorian woods and had a choice: to turn and go back or to travel further into the forest of this music.” Many of the tracks on this album include collaborators that she has admired the work of and has finally gotten a chance to work with. For example, Taylor always adored the work of Justin Vernon. Through her collaboration with Aaron Dessner, she got the chance to work with her favorite artist. Justin collaborated with Taylor for the song titled evermore. She also worked to write many of her songs with Aaron Dessner. They collaborated on tracks titled willow, ‘tis the damn season, tolerate it, happiness, dorothea, coney island, ivy, cowboy like me, long story short, marjorie, closure, right where you left me, and it’s time to go. His collaboration with Taylor has been a huge benefit to the development of her music. Jack Antonoff also worked with Taylor to write on her songs. He worked with writing songs titled gold rush and ivy. He has worked with Taylor for many years and has helped a lot. She also included the help of the band called The National for the song coney island. This is my favorite track on the album, and I really love everything about this song. It’s amazing to see all the people she worked with for the creation of this album, and they all worked together very nicely.

Another one of Taylor’s collaborators on this album was someone named William Bowery. Many of Taylor’s fans questioned this, because this person does not actually exist. This led to many speculations throughout her fanbase, and the fans eventually concluded that William Bowery is Joe Alwin, Taylor’s long-time boyfriend. They have been dating for about five years, and Taylor trusted him to help with her songwriting and producing. He worked with Taylor on songs such as champagne problems, coney island, and evermore. He helped to write a couple of the songs, and he was there to help bounce ideas between himself and Taylor. Joe’s contribution to this album has led people to think that he should be included in Taylor’s work in the future.

Looking at the track list, there are a few favorites that automatically jump out at me. Of course, I love the song coney island. A song about true heartbreak and mourning the loss of a significant other is captured perfectly throughout this song. I also love evermore, a song with Bon Iver that is the definition of a perfect collaboration. gold rush is a song that is amazing to dance to and it’s very upbeat and fun. Another song that is an outlier from the rest is a song titled no body, no crime (feat. HAIM). This song brings everybody back to the phase of Taylor’s original county music, bringing a storyline to follow as the song develops. Along with this song, my dance teacher choreographed a piece to this song with his four students to convey the story in a form of dancing.  https://youtu.be/1HKCDFiCAAM

Overall, evermore is currently one of my favorite albums that Taylor Swift has in her discography. She has adapted to a new form of songwriting, and she has proved herself time and time again. The creation of this album goes to show her audience that she is well-rounded in any music style that she chooses. If you haven’t yet, I highly recommend diving into the album evermore. You will not regret it 🙂
