What’s Happening In The Music Industry?
Friday, December 3rd was a big week for the music world. With new songs, music videos, and a new set for the Bilboard Charts. Let’s break down some of the things that were released!
Last Friday, R&B artist SZA released her highly anticipated song “I Hate U”. Fans were stoked that she finally decided to release the song despite a snippet of the song being leaked on Tik Tok. This was her first solo single since “Good Days” which she released in late December of 2020. Within 1 day the song became #1 on Spotify with over 1.615 million streams. Not only 3 days later the song has reached over 8.5 million streams on Spotify. As well as the song peaking at #9 on the Billboard Top 100 Chart making it the Grammy-nominated artist’s first top 10 hit.
Along with SZA’s new song Doja Cat also released a new music video for a song titled “Woman” sophomore album “Planet Her”. The song quickly gained popularity and started to become one of the most streamed songs on the album with a total of 449 million streams on Spotify.
Her song “Woman” circles around the meaning of feminism and womanhood. The lyrics in the song express how women are the foundation of the earth the creators but are still overlooked and underappreciated. In the video, she portrays different greek goddesses just to show that women are some of the most powerful beings to walk the earth. Within 3 days the song has already gained over 15 million views on YouTube as well as it sits at #3 on trending for music.
As the new week arrives so does a new billboard chart. About a month ago Adele released her highly anticipated 4th studio album “30”. The lead single “Easy” remains #1 on the chart for its 6th week. As well as many of her other songs start to enter the Billboard Top 100. Within a month Adele has racked up 405 million streams on Spotify. As well as the song reaching #1 within a day. Others would think that since Adele hasn’t released an album since 2015 her consistency would’ve died but she still remains one of the most popular artists to date with record-breaking numbers.
