Over the years artists have been scammed by the recording academy for the awards they rightfully deserve. The award show is known as the Grammys is an award presented by the recording academy as a sign of accomplishment or recognition in the music industry. The Grammys have been known for scamming their artist of the awards they deserve hence the name “The Scammys” was born.

1. The Weeknd

The Weeknd has had many billboard hits but the one to stand out was “Blinding Lights”. “Blinding Lights” was the second lead single off The Weeknd’s fourth studio album “After Hours”. The song peaked at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart and stayed on the chart for over 81 weeks. As the song charted for over a year it was also considered the biggest song of the year by billboard as well as the most-streamed song of the year with a total of 2.5 billion streams and a total of 3 million units being sold certifying it 5x platinum.

Despite being the song being the biggest song of 2020 the album nor did the song earn a single nomination. Fans were outraged as well as the Weeknd took to Twitter with this statement. He said, ” The Grammys remain corrupt. You owe me, my fans, and the industry transparency…”. As the first artist to ever keep their song on the charts for over a year it’s appalling that he did not even get a nomination for what was considered the biggest song of 2020.

2. Ariana Grande

On February 8, 2019, Ariana Grande released her 5th studio album titled “Thank U, Next”. The three lead singles off of the album were a major success as they covered the first 3 spots on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart.  “7 Rings” debuted as #1 spot as well as “break up with your girlfriend, i’m bored” peaked at #2, and the title track “thank u, next” claimed #3. She was the first solo artist to do this ever and the first artist since The Beatles to this since 1964. The album’s highly rained success scored Grande 5 nominations at the 2019 Grammys.

Grande in fact did not win a single Grammy despite achieving one of the greatest goals for a musical artist ever. Billie Eilish who beat Grande out for 3 of her Grammys mentioned how Grande should’ve won because she was more deserving. As Eilish accepted her award for album of the year she said “Can I just say Ariana deserves this award. “thank u, next” got me through some sh*t, and I think it deserves more than anything in the world”.

Ariana had much recognition that year but sadly not enough to get a win. As she has been nominated this year for  Best Pop Solo Performance fingers crossed she is guaranteed the win.

3. Miley Cyrus

In November of 2020, Miley Cyrus released her seventh studio album “Plastic Hearts”. Her debut rock album was highly successful with the album peaking at #1 on the Billboard Top Rock Albums. The title track “Plastic Hearts” peaked at #2 on the Billboard Top 200 and the lead single “Midnight Sky” peaking at # 14 on The Billboard Top 100.

With the album being the #1 rock album in the world she still didn’t receive a single nomination for any of the rock categories. Fans were outraged of the outcome as Miley took to Twitter and humbly tweeted “In good company”.

Miley has yet to win a Grammy but we can hope in the future she will get the recognition she deserves for her hard work and outstanding achievements.
