Why Avatar: The Last Airbender is my Comfort Show

Why Avatar: The Last Airbender is my Comfort Show

Avatar: The Last Airbender is an extremely popular show. Since the release of it on Netflix in May 2020 it has reached a lot more people than it has ever before. Originally aired on Nickelodeon, late in February 2005 and the show ending in 2008. While growing up Avatar was not even on my radar. Now that it is on Netflix it has given me an amazing opportunity to watch and re-watch the show. But what makes avatar so great? Let me explain.

Avatar’s writing and world building makes it so appealing and makes you come back for more. The detail in the writing brings so much structure and depth to each season of the show. They add such well thought out story lines and backstories for each character in this beloved show. The development of characters throughout the entire series allows for a very satisfactory ending and a very complex journey. Loveable main characters, like Aang and Sokka, in the beginning of the show, bring you in while more complex characters like Zuko keep you enticed. This show has a very familiar structure to other shows on Nickelodeon, but it carries a more mature plot.

The best part of watching this show was sharing it with my family. My older brother, Matthew, actually introduced me to the show. In the cold months of December and January, my brother and I would sit down each night and enjoy a few episodes. Now that he is away at college, I have a little piece of him when I’m watching avatar.

I highly recommend taking some time out of your day to sit down and watch this show, or any show for that matter.
